Whether you’re a pumpkin spiced latte fan or you prefer peppermint-inspired color palettes, the holidays are an excellent time to spruce up your home decor. For some ideas on how to decorate your home this holiday season, we asked some of our designers to share their favorite picks. Keep reading to learn how Jeannine Guerra transforms her home this season with just a handful of key items.
Q: What are your top priorities when designing a new space?
A: To me, functionality is the first step of every design. Once you start designing with functionality, then you’ll have the versatility to create a long-lasting design that will transcend the test of time.
Q: Describe your design aesthetic.
A: I’m all about neutral and simple designs, but I love to elevate them with lots of texture. That is why I’m currently crushing on these pieces. They might seem simple by themselves, but when you start adding small details here and there, it starts to make sense. Plus, who would not want to have a pampas wreath for the holiday season? Am I right?
Q: What are your favorite picks for the holidays?
A: Colossal Handknit Throws: One of the easiest ways to bring some holiday charm to your home decor is by adding a chunky throw. Jeannine picked this one by Pottery Barn, and the truth is we can’t choose a single color. Throwing this over your living room’s sofa will instantly make it feel more comfortable and cozy. Plus, it also works to add them to your bedroom for an instant fall-decor transformation.
A: Colca Wool Rug: Everyone thinks that fall or holiday colors must be burnt oranges, whites, and reds. But, neutrals can also give you the same look and feel. This pick by Jeannine literally works perfectly in every single room of the house.
A: Square Diamond Pillows: Very much like throws, pillows are another way to add seasonal accents to your decor. I mean, we can all remember our moms and grandmothers dusting out the holiday-themed pillow covers. Right? Well, this is similar to that idea, only much more stylish. When you’re thinking about incorporating throw pillows to either your living room or bedroom, Jeannine recommends that you think about texture and neutral tones. As you’re rearranging your pillows, don’t hesitate to mix and match different textures and finishes. Fall is a great season to play with knits, velvets, cotton, and more.
A: Faux Pampas taupe Wreath: I don’t know about you, but at my house, the seasons don’t change until I change my entryway wreath. An easy way to spread the season’s style across your home is to add a few wreaths here and there. Usually, the most theme-oriented one goes by your entryway door — think of this one as the accent wreath. Then, you can incorporate more stylish options like Jeannine’s pick from CB2. It’s the perfect fall accent to add by the windows, over your fireplace mantle, or by the accent wall behind your living room’s couch.
A: Stitched Leather Trees: These modern-looking leather trees are the perfect accent to decorate a minimalist holiday home. The stitching detail around the tress adds texture and an extra dimension to them. Although small and mighty, they can add a lot of presence to a window, the middle of the table, placed by a side table, or anywhere else around the house — these leather trees will make an impressive statement. What’s even better is that you don’t need to add much around these trees as they’re a statement piece on their own. Plus, with neutral colors, they can easily transition into spring without trouble.
