Selena Hughes: I would like to add a little more color to my office space, while keeping it looking professional. What is the right way to go about it?
Elle Applewhite, Spacejoy Designer: First of all, kudos on opting for more color for your office space. There isn’t a right or wrong method, but yes most people take the neutral route just because one does business there. It doesn’t necessarily have to be that way as there are a lot of elements that help bring in color into your space without overdoing it. Here is how we bring in the color to your current space.
1. Add a bright-colored rug: Swap out your neutral rug for a rug that has pops of blue. Since you already have blue accent pillows and an artwork in your office that is primarily blue, the rug’s color will complement the two. Blue is not only calming and but is also a mentally stimulating color that increases your productivity.
Vintage daisy bordered from Ruggable is what I have used in this design.
2. Introduce Brass Tones: Besides the rug, we can also use furnishings to bring in the “color” factor. We can replace the all-white desk with a Gemini Desk from WestElm that comes with additional brass tones. These brass tones make your office look chicer and gives it a professional look at the same time.
In this design, I’ve used West Elm’s Gemini Desk
I’ll leave you with some more home office design inspiration that have pops of color. Hope this helps!
